How ReMi Started

“Like many women, I was trying to do it all, while running on empty. The only time I had for myself was behind the closed doors of our bathroom. This is the time I had to recentre myself.

But then… I noticed all the plastic bottles, pumps and tubes surrounding me. I was shocked to learn, they would pollute our land and waters for 400-500 years, breaking down into microplastics, harming our oceans, our wildlife, our health, our children’s health.

I felt the call to bring my background in beauty and personal care to create a ritual that is simple, effective, beautiful and one with nature.  

In creating ReMI, I realised, plastic is a symptom. The problem is our disconnection. In our obsession with material success, we have become disconnected with our own humanity and our place in nature. Which is why we can make or buy toxic products without much thought.

Unlike traditional moisturisers, which are typically made up of 70-90% water, the Moisturiser Stone is completely waterless. This ensures that every ingredient in the product is delivered undiluted to the skin, resulting in a more potent, effective formula. The stones come nestled in cardboard boxes, with bespoke ceramic cases to keep them in.

The Moisturiser Stone is a blend of clinically-backed cosmeceuticals and Australian native botanicals, many of which are grown in some of the harshest environments on Earth. These botanicals, known for their resilience and healing properties, help protect the skin from environmental stressors while also strengthening its barrier. Available in both Day and Night formulations, the ReMi Moisturiser Stone provides high-performance skincare that works seamlessly with your daily routine.

By eliminating the water content found in most liquid moisturisers, ReMi has also radically reduced packaging and shipping, contributing to a significant decrease in their environmental impact. Handmade in Melbourne: Beauty Meets Art

Each ReMi Moisturiser Stone is handmade in ReMi’s own Melbourne lab, where every detail is meticulously crafted. The brand’s founder, Kiyoung Sung, drew inspiration from the need to simplify and reconnect with nature, and her vision is evident in every product ReMi creates. The Moisturiser Stone is designed by Ryan L Foote, a multidisciplinary artist who worked closely with ReMi to create a mould that reflects the elegance and simplicity of the brand.

The ceramic vessels that accompany the stone are also handmade in Melbourne, just 3km from ReMi’s lab, by Ryan’s design studio. These bespoke, refillable ceramic boxes serve as both functional packaging and beautiful keepsakes that transform the skincare routine into a meditative ritual. Designed with minimalist elegance, these vessels eliminate plastic waste entirely while ensuring that the Moisturiser Stones remain fresh and effective.

As Kiyoung explains, “Plastic is a symptom. The problem is our disconnection.” Through ReMi Beauty, she invites us to re-establish that vital connection with nature and ourselves, starting with the simple yet powerful act of skincare. Each step of the ReMi process, from the thoughtfully designed product to its sustainable packaging, encourages us to slow down and embrace mindful consumption.

With every product sold, ReMi removes 1kg of plastic from the environment in partnership with Plastic Bank, an initiative that helps clean up oceans and waterways while providing waste workers in developing countries with fair wages and dignified work. The brand also embraces local sourcing and regenerative farming practices, ensuring that all ingredients are ethically sourced from suppliers who prioritise the environment.
