Sustainability Award Background

Launching on World Environment Day – June 5 2024 – the Sustainability Award is a global cross-industry award program focusing specifically on sustainability. The award recognises the most sustainable products and services in their industry globally.

An environmental award for the digital age, the award is run virtually. The assessment process is rigorous yet user-friendly. There is an award for individual products and services, and an award for entire organisations.

The award was developed in consultation with over 50 leading environmentally focused organisations large and small, from different countries and industries including global brands Lush and UpCircle. The founding winners below were the first to complete the application process and win awards.

2024: 90 Winners in 10 countries

Between launching in June 2024 and December 2024 there were 90 winners of Product and Organisation Sustainability Awards across 40 businesses and five categories; skincare and beauty, food and drink, household, fashion, and services. We had over 200 applicants and only those who met our rigorous criteria were awarded. View all winners.

Congratulations to our pioneering winners. The 12 organisations below were among over 50 organisations that participated in the Sustainability Award pilot in 2024. They helped to make the award process as comprehensive and user friendly as possible by testing the process and giving feedback and suggestions. Founder

Founder Anna Chatburn lives in Sydney, Australia. Anna has a lifelong passion for the environment and is utilising her background in sustainability and marketing to build the award program and promote the winners.

“I founded Sustainability Award when, as a sustainable business owner myself, I couldn’t find a sustainability award to apply to that was focused solely on environmental impact.

I noticed a lot of existing environmental-related award schemes were awarding products packaged in virgin plastic, just because they have natural ingredients, for example. I also realised that service-based organisations, amongst other industries, weren’t included in existing sustainability awards.

It’s been really uplifting to work with inspiring future-focused businesses that are at the forefront of sustainability to build, refine and test the award process.

Only the best most sustainable choices in their industry or category are awarded the Sustainability Award.”
